Description

This Japanese Type 99 Arisaka bolt-action short rifle is chambered in 7.7x58mm and was manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal. The firearm is equipped with a 26-inch barrel and retains its blued finish on the major metal components. The receiver’s top is marked with the Japanese characters 九九式 for Type 99, although the Imperial Chrysanthemum has been ground off as is typical for surrendered examples, leaving a visible defaced area. Transcription of the markings on the left side of the receiver shows a series symbol followed by the serial number 6159 and the Nagoya Arsenal logo. The rifle features a two-piece wooden stock with a semi-pistol grip and a metal buttplate. Its sighting system includes a front sight with protective ears and a ladder-style rear sight that retains the anti-aircraft wings. A cleaning rod is present and stored in the channel under the barrel. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal components exhibit a blued finish with moderate thinning and wear, particularly on the bolt handle and high points of the receiver and barrel bands. The receiver bridge shows a prominent ground area where the Imperial Chrysanthemum was removed. The wooden stock is in good overall condition, showing various dings, surface scratches, and small indentations consistent with military service use and storage. The bore condition was not inspected. The bolt action appears to function smoothly, but the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired.
