Lot 87:
Sold for: $525
Description
This is a Finnish Civil Guard Model 28 bolt action rifle chambered in 7.62x54R, a specialized variant of the Mosin-Nagant system. The rifle features an approximately 27 inch heavy barrel produced by Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft, and the metal surfaces retain a blued finish that has thinned to a mottled grey and brown patina from age and use. Built on an octagonal receiver, the rifle is fitted with a tangent rear sight graduated with the characters 2, 3, 4, 5 1/2, 7, and 8 1/2. The two-piece Finnish birch stock is characterized by its dog-ear style sling slots and exhibits typical service wear including dings and scratches. Prominent markings include the SY Civil Guard designation on the barrel shank above a struck-through serial number S 48633 and the text Schweiz Industrie-Gesellschaft. The receiver flat displays a struck-through serial number S 49998, while the bolt body bears the characters 59395 and a struck-through 91584. The bolt knob is stamped with the number 245, which matches a district marking found on the right side of the barrel shank. A US import mark on the barrel reads WETH, CT. FINLAND. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish shows significant thinning and transition to a brown and grey patina throughout, consistent with military service. There are areas of minor oxidation and handling marks on the receiver and barrel. The Finnish birch stock remains structurally sound but displays numerous small dings, scratches, and abrasions. The action cycles properly. The cleaning rod and leather dog-ear sling attachments are present and show moderate wear.
