Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 10:
Sold for: $40
Description
This lot consists of 50 rounds of vintage .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition produced by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company. These cartridges are loaded with Lesmok powder and feature 40-grain lead bullets intended for target shooting and use in repeating rifles. The orange and black two-piece cardboard box provides extensive branding and technical information. Transcribed markings on the top label include .22 LONG RIFLE R.F. LESMOK, 50 CARTRIDGES, 40 GRS. BULLET, and REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A. The sides and bottom of the box contain promotional text in English and Spanish recommending the ammunition for use in firearms manufactured by Remington-UMC, Smith and Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Stevens. The cartridges themselves bear the U headstamp on the base. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box shows significant age-related wear, including scuffing, staining, and frayed edges, though the primary labeling remains legible. The 50 cartridges appear to be in original, unfired condition. The lead bullets exhibit a layer of white oxidation consistent with long-term storage, and the copper-colored cases have developed a dark, natural patina. The cartridges appear to be live.
