Description

This lot features a single two-piece cardboard ammunition box containing twenty .45-500 Government smokeless central fire cartridges produced by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Designed for use in U.S. Government standard rifles, these heavy-caliber rounds represent a transitional period in ammunition technology using smokeless powder charges with 500-grain lead bullets. The box top is printed in red ink and features the text U. S. Government Standard and 20 Cartridges surrounding a central illustration of a cartridge marked .45-500 GOVERNMENT SMOKELESS. Prominent side panel markings are transcribed as TWENTY .45-500 GOV’T. SMOKELESS CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES MANUFACTURED BY The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U. S. A. flanked by the U.M.C. TRADE MARK logos. The box retains its original pull string along the front and side and is currently protected by a clear plastic wrap. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The box is in good condition for its age, showing natural toning and light shelf wear to the cardboard surfaces. The red printed graphics and text remain bright and entirely legible. The original pull string is intact and visible. The exterior is encased in a clear plastic protective wrap that exhibits some tearing, scuffing, and old tape residue. Individual cartridges have not been removed for inspection due to the wrap but appear to be original factory loads. The box is full and contains the specified twenty rounds.
