Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 113:
Sold for: $275
Description
This lot consists of 150 rounds of 5mm Rim Fire Magnum ammunition manufactured by Remington, divided into three original 50-count cardboard boxes. These high-speed bottlenecked rimfire cartridges feature 38-grain hollow point Power-Lokt bullets and brass cases. The packaging prominently displays the Remington script logo in green, along with the text 5mm. Rim Fire Remington Magnum, 38 Gr. Hollow Point Power-Lokt, and the manufacturer index number 1050. Additional markings on the boxes include the DuPont oval logo, Made in U.S.A., and 50 Hi-Speed Rim Fire Magnum Cartridges. Each cartridge is stamped with a U headstamp on the rim. The ammunition was originally produced for the Remington Model 591 and 592 rifles, which were introduced in the late 1960s. These cartridges appear to be live and suitable for collection or use in firearms chambered specifically for this magnum rimfire caliber.
Condition report:
The original cardboard boxes exhibit age-related shelf wear, including surface yellowing, light staining, and edge fraying. Handwritten price markings of $5.80 and $5 are visible on the box exteriors. The internal styrofoam trays show some signs of use and handling. The cartridges themselves display light surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with long-term storage, though the brass remains structurally sound. While a total count of 150 rounds is specified, a visual inspection of one open tray confirms the presence of 47 cartridges with one horizontal round and three empty positions, suggesting some loose rounds may have been lost or used over time; however, the lot is being sold as a total quantity of 150 rounds per the provided data.
