Description
This is a single Remington Model 12 pump-action takedown rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle, designed as a popular rimfire sporting and gallery firearm. The rifle features a 22-inch round barrel with a tubular magazine mounted underneath the barrel assembly. The steel receiver displays a mottled brownish-gray patina with significant thinning and light surface wear consistent with historical use, while the barrel retains more of its original blued finish with localized areas of thinning and minor handling marks. The firearm is equipped with a two-piece walnut stock and a grooved corncob style forend; a prominent longitudinal crack is present on the left side of the stock wrist. Sighting is handled by a rear adjustable leaf sight and a fixed front blade sight that has been enhanced with a red-painted tip. Features include a knurled takedown screw on the left side of the receiver and a checkered plastic buttplate. Verbatim markings on the barrel include REMINGTON ARMS CO., INC., ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. followed by PATENTS 1,481,638 – 1,628,548 – 1,682,704. The left side of the barrel is stamped .22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE. The underside of the receiver is serialized 479803 with the letters RW stamped above, which corresponds to a November 1928 manufacture date. The Remington UMC Trade Mark logo is present in a circle on the upper tang and embossed on the buttplate. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish on the barrel remains largely intact with standard thinning, while the receiver has transitioned to a fairly uniform brown patina with no significant pitting observed. The bore was not internally inspected and its condition is unknown. The slide action appears to function correctly and cycles smoothly. The wooden furniture shows various dings, scratches, and finish wear appropriate for its age, with the most notable flaw being a deep longitudinal crack at the wrist of the buttstock. The plastic buttplate is well-preserved with clear markings and intact checkering.
