Description
A Remington Model 6 falling block single-shot rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges, originally marketed as a reliable boy’s rifle or small game firearm. This example features a round barrel with a fixed front blade sight and a simple notch rear sight. The metal components, including the receiver and barrel, are finished with a blued coating that has largely transitioned to a heavy brown patina with significant surface pitting throughout. The rifle is stocked with a smooth wood forend and a straight-grip buttstock, ending in a metal buttplate. Extensive markings are found on the barrel and receiver; the top of the barrel is stamped REMINGTON ARMS–UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO., / REMINGTON WORKS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A.–PATENTED JULY 22, 1902. The left side of the chamber area bears the cursive Remington Trade Mark above the caliber designation .22 SHORT, LONG / OR LONG RIFLE. The serial number S 274271 N is stamped on the underside of the barrel and receiver junction. The metal buttplate displays a circular Remington UMC Trade Mark. The wood furniture shows heavy handling wear, specifically featuring prominent longitudinal cracks on both sides of the wrist where the stock meets the receiver. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a mostly brown patina with significant areas of surface pitting and oxidation, particularly along the length of the barrel and on the receiver. The original blued finish is mostly worn away. The bore was not inspected. The rolling block action and hammer appear to function mechanically, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The wood stock and forend show numerous dings, scratches, and a loss of original finish; the buttstock has two large, notable cracks at the wrist. The metal buttplate shows heavy patina and moderate pitting.
