Description
This Smith & Wesson Model 38 Bodyguard is a compact five-shot Centennial-style revolver designed for concealed carry, chambered in .38 Special ammunition. It features a 2-inch barrel, a shrouded internal hammer for a snag-free draw, and a functional grip safety integrated into the rear backstrap. The firearm is constructed with a lightweight aluminum alloy frame and a steel barrel and cylinder. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips containing inset Smith & Wesson medallions. Prominent markings include SMITH & WESSON on the left side of the barrel and AIRWEIGHT over 38 SPL. CTG. on the right. The right side of the frame features the standard four-line address: MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. while the left side bears the large S&W trademark logo. The serial number 89132 is clearly and consistently marked on the butt, the underside of the barrel, and the rear face of the cylinder. Internal assembly numbers 4186 over 2 are visible on the frame and yoke. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in well-used condition, showing significant wear to the original finishes. The anodized finish on the aluminum alloy frame is heavily worn, with substantial loss on the grip straps, trigger guard, and frame flats, revealing the light-colored base metal. The blued finish on the steel barrel and cylinder shows thinning, holster wear, and scattered areas of light surface oxidation and minor pitting. The checkered wood grips exhibit various dings, smoothed areas in the checkering, and heavy oxidation on the medallions. The action appears to function correctly; however, the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired. The bore was not inspected.
