Description
This W. & C. Scott & Son side-by-side muzzleloading percussion shotgun is configured with twin barrels and a central top rib. The action utilizes dual external hammers and double triggers, featuring decorative scroll engraving on the lock plates, hammers, and trigger guard. The firearm is mounted with a walnut stock including a checkered straight wrist, a small metal initial shield on the underside, and a metal buttplate. Key markings include the top rib which is inscribed LONDON LAMINATED STEEL in cursive script, while both lock plates are clearly marked W. & C. SCOTT & SON. A wooden ramrod is stored beneath the barrels but is notably split and damaged in several locations. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a consistent aged gray patina with areas of surface oxidation. Pitting is visible, specifically concentrated around the breech and percussion nipples. The fine scroll engraving remains largely legible. The walnut stock displays various dings, scratches, and handling wear consistent with its age, though the checkering remains identifiable. The bores were not inspected but likely contain pitting consistent with the exterior. The action appears to function, though it has not been function tested. The wooden ramrod is in poor condition with significant lengthwise splitting.
