Description
This bronze sculpture, titled The Rattlesnake, is modeled after the original work by Frederic Remington. The piece depicts a dynamic Western scene of a cowboy on a bucking horse that has been startled by a small rattlesnake coiled on the ground. The horse is captured in a high-action pose with its head tucked and forelegs raised, while the rider leans forward, one hand steadying his hat and the other holding wire reins. The rider is dressed in detailed Western attire, including prominent wooly chaps. The bronze features a dark brown to black patina with some areas of light greenish oxidation in the textured recesses of the base. The artist’s signature, Frederic Remington, is incised into the bronze ground. The sculpture is mounted on a tiered, oval black marble base that features an attached brass-toned plaque inscribed RATTLESNAKE BY FREDERIC REMINGTON.

Condition report:
Overall good condition. Minor surface wear to the patina is present on high-relief areas and edges. There are scattered patches of light green oxidation/verdigris within the textured crevices of the bronze base. The black marble base exhibits minor surface scratches and small nicks along the lower edge consistent with age and handling. No evidence of structural damage or previous repairs is visible.
