Description
This lot features a Gettysburg 1863 commemorative percussion revolver, a high-quality replica of a Colt Model 1860 Army manufactured by A. Uberti in Italy and authorized by America Remembers in cooperation with the United States Society of Arms and Armour. Chambered for .44 caliber black powder, the firearm features an 8 inch barrel with a high-polish blued finish on the barrel and frame, complemented by gold-plated accents on the trigger guard, backstrap, front sight, and various smaller components. The barrel is adorned with gold-inlaid inscriptions: GETTYSBURG PENNSYLVANIA * JULY 1863 on the left side and a quote from Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, WE HERE HIGHLY RESOLVE THAT THESE DEAD SHALL NOT HAVE DIED IN VAIN, on the right side. The cylinder displays an elaborate gold-etched panoramic scene depicting Pickett’s Charge, and the frame features gold-etched cannon and star motifs. Key markings include the manufacturer designation CAL .44 BLACK POWDER ONLY—A. UBERTI ITALY on the underside of the barrel and the serial number 719 alongside Italian proof marks PN and BM on the underside of the frame. The revolver is fitted with smooth, dark wood grips and is housed in its original velvet-lined wooden presentation case, which includes a commemorative brass plaque on the inner lid. Accompanying the firearm are two reproduction brass belt buckles featuring a Union eagle design and a Confederate CS design, a brass case key, a reproduction of the Gettysburg Address on parchment paper, white handling gloves, and informational literature. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in excellent, like-new condition, retaining approximately 99 percent of its original high-polish blued and gold-plated finishes with no significant wear, scratches, or pitting noted. The smooth wood grips are in excellent condition with a rich grain and no visible dings or handling marks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and appears to be in unfired condition. The single action appears to function correctly with a tight cylinder lockup, although we have not function-tested this firearm. The wooden presentation case and included accessories are in excellent condition.
