Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 59:
Sold for: $40
Description
This lot features a total of 128 rounds of Remington .22 Short rimfire ammunition housed in three original two-piece cardboard boxes. The group consists of two full boxes of 50 rounds each and one partial box containing 28 rounds with cotton filler. The packaging is finished in the classic red and green color scheme and prominently displays several markings including the model designation new Remington 22 SHORT HiSPEED, the manufacturing location MADE IN U.S.A., and the original quantity 50 RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES. The end flaps are verbatim labeled Remington HiSPEED KLEANBORE 22 SHORT. The cartridges within display two variations in finish: one box contains nickel-plated or silver-toned cases with headstamps marked with a U and HI SPEED, while the remaining cartridges are brass-cased with a simple U headstamp. All rounds are equipped with lead lubricated bullets intended for target shooting or small game hunting.
Condition report:
The original cardboard boxes show moderate shelf wear consistent with age, including edge fraying, corner compression, surface scuffing, and minor staining. The condition of the ammunition varies by box; the silver-toned cartridges appear in good condition with clean cases and bright bullets. The brass-cased rounds in the second full box show light surface tarnish. The 28 rounds in the partial box exhibit significant green oxidation and verdigris on the brass cases along with white oxidation on the lead bullets. The ammunition appears to be live and original, though we have not function-tested these cartridges.
