Description
This Stevens Model 940 is a single-shot break-action shotgun chambered for 20 gauge with a 28-inch barrel and a 2 3/4 inch chamber. The firearm features a blued barrel fitted with a single silver-tone bead front sight and a case-hardened receiver showcasing a rolled engraving of a hunting dog on the right side. The furniture consists of a plain wood stock and forend, and the shotgun is capped with a black plastic buttplate. Key markings include the model and manufacturer designations on the left side of the receiver, transcribed as STEVENS MODEL 940, SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION, and WESTFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. Barrel markings specify SELECTED FORGED STEEL, PROOF TESTED 20 GAUGE, and — 2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER —. No serial number is visible on the exterior of the firearm. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The barrel shows significant finish wear and a developing patina with scattered light surface oxidation and minor handling marks. The case-hardened receiver remains visible with some fading, speckling, and surface oxidation present. The bore was not inspected. The wooden stock and forend exhibit scattered dings, scratches, and finish wear consistent with use. The black plastic buttplate is noticeably chipped at the top heel. The action appears to lock up securely.
