Description
This is an L.C. Smith double-barrel hammer shotgun manufactured by the Hunter Arms Co. featuring a side-by-side configuration and break-open sidelock action. The 31-inch Damascus steel barrels exhibit a visible pattern with a heavily worn finish and are topped with a checkered rib and a brass bead front sight. Key markings include the top of the barrel rib stamped HUNTER ARMS CO. MAKERS, FULTON, N.Y. and both sideplates engraved L. C. SMITH. The receiver and lock plates show remnants of case hardening, now transitioned to a grey patina with areas of surface oxidation. The serial number 137573 and the grade letter F are clearly stamped on both the barrel flats and the water table. The shotgun is fitted with dual external hammers and double triggers. The walnut stock features a pistol grip and has been refinished, showing light handling marks, and is capped with a black serrated buttplate. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a significant loss of original finish, with the Damascus barrels displaying a dark grey patina and scattered surface oxidation. The receiver has worn to a consistent grey patina with light silvering on the edges. The bores were not inspected. The action appears to function correctly with the hammers cocking and the triggers releasing, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The walnut furniture has been refinished and remains in good condition with minor dings and handling wear consistent with age. The serrated buttplate shows light wear but no significant cracking.
