Description
This is a Winchester Model 1897 take-down pump-action shotgun chambered for 12 gauge. It is configured with a 30 inch barrel featuring a full choke and a simple brass bead front sight. The receiver features an exposed hammer and a take-down mechanism for easy transport. The furniture consists of a walnut stock with some tiger-stripe figuring at the wrist and a ribbed wooden pump forend, terminating in a checkered metal buttplate. Key markings include the model designation on the action slide which reads MODEL 1897 over WINCHESTER and TRADE MARK. The top of the barrel and the receiver both bear the Winchester WP proof mark within an oval. Barrel markings include 12 for the gauge and FULL for the choke, alongside the manufacturer address and a series of patent dates from NOV. 25. 90. to OCT. 16. 1900. The matching serial number 309820 is extensively transcribed from the underside of both the receiver and the barrel assembly, with the receiver additionally bearing a D prefix. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in fair to good condition, showing moderate handling wear throughout. The original blued finish has significantly thinned and transitioned to a mottled grey patina on both the barrel and the receiver. There is a prominent area of concentrated scratching and finish loss on the left side of the receiver. The walnut stock and forend exhibit numerous surface scratches, dings, and handling marks, but remain structurally sound. The action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired. The bore was not inspected.
