Description
This is a Savage Sporter bolt-action rifle chambered in .25-20 caliber, a model historically utilized for small game and varmint hunting. The rifle features a 25-inch blued barrel with an integrated receiver design. The metal components retain a thinned blued finish, while the furniture is a one-piece walnut stock featuring a plain pistol grip and a metal buttplate. Key markings on the top of the barrel include the transcription MANUFACTURED BY SAVAGE ARMS CORP. UTICA.N.Y.U.S.A. — SAVAGE SPORTER and a line of patent dates reading PATENTED NOV.28.1905.SEP.7.1915.SEP.4.1917. NOV.20.1917. The left side of the receiver is stamped 25 — 20 next to a SAFE position indicator for the safety lever. The metal buttplate is embossed with the SAVAGE QUALITY TRADE MARK encircling an Indian head logo. Sighting is provided by a blade front sight and an adjustable leaf rear sight. Please note that the detachable box magazine is missing from this rifle. The action appears to function mechanically, but we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good used condition with moderate wear to the metal and wood components. The original blued finish shows thinning and wear along the length of the barrel and receiver, with more pronounced thinning on the bolt handle and operational surfaces. The walnut stock shows numerous scratches, pressure dings, and handling marks consistent with field use, but remains structurally solid. The metal buttplate shows surface wear and minor oxidation. The bore appears generally clean at the muzzle, though it has not been fully borescoped. The detachable box magazine is missing.
