Description
This is an Iver Johnson Champion single-shot break-action shotgun chambered in 16 gauge. The firearm is configured with a 28-inch barrel featuring a choke bore and is designed with a top-lever break-open action and an external hammer. The metal surfaces exhibit a dark brown patina with visible surface wear and areas of light oxidation consistent with field use. The firearm is fitted with a smooth wood stock and matching forend, featuring a textured black buttplate embossed with the Iver Johnson name and owl logo. A simple bead front sight is mounted at the muzzle. Key markings on the left side of the receiver include IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A. CHAMPION. The top of the barrel specifies 16 GAUGE – CHOKE BORE – and bears the text BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE. The serial number 55687 is stamped on the underside of the frame. Condition report:
The shotgun is in used condition with significant cosmetic wear throughout. The metal finish has aged to a dark brown patina with visible mottling, surface scratches, and patches of light oxidation on the barrel and receiver. The bore is dark with visible signs of pitting and wear. The wood furniture shows numerous scratches, dings, and compressions, particularly on the buttstock, with a considerable loss of original finish. The action appears to function correctly, and the hammer holds at full cock, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The buttplate shows a small chip at the toe.
