Description
This is a Stevens Model 940B single-shot break-action shotgun chambered for 16 gauge, 2 3/4-inch shells. It is equipped with a 28-inch selected forged steel barrel and features a top-mounted opening lever and an external hammer. The receiver displays a case-hardened finish with mottled colors and an engraved scene of a hunting dog on the right side, while the barrel retains a blued finish. The firearm is fitted with a smooth wood stock and forend, terminating in a black plastic ribbed buttplate. Key markings on the left side of the receiver include STEVENS MODEL 940B / SAVAGE ARMS / WESTFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. Barrel markings specify SELECTED FORGED STEEL / PROOF TESTED 16 GAUGE / — 2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER — along with a small circular proof mark near the breech. No serial number is visible in the provided images. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a good portion of their original finish, with the receiver showing visible case colors and the barrel bluing exhibiting minor thinning and light surface scuffs. The wood furniture shows significant cosmetic wear, including numerous deep scratches, dings, and areas of finish loss, particularly on the buttstock. The bore was not inspected but the muzzle appears clear. The action appears to function correctly, although we have not function-tested this firearm.
