Description
The Winchester Model 290 is a versatile semi-automatic rimfire rifle designed to cycle .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably. This example features a 20.5 inch blued steel barrel with an integral tubular magazine located beneath the barrel. The alloy receiver is finished in a black coating and is grooved to accept the included Weaver rings and an unbranded scope marked MODEL 21006 CHINA CG with a duplex reticle. The rifle is equipped with a two-piece hardwood stock and forend, both featuring pressed checkering with a diamond motif and a smooth satin finish. A black plastic buttplate marked WINCHESTER over a white spacer completes the furniture. Prominent markings on the left side of the barrel are transcribed as —WINCHESTER ® 22 S. L. OR L.R. — MODEL — 290 followed by a WP proof mark, which is also stamped on the forward top edge of the receiver. The serial number 341262 is clearly struck on the underside of the receiver. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition. The blued finish on the barrel and magazine tube shows scattered light surface oxidation and minor thinning at the muzzle. The black finish on the receiver exhibits several light scratches and typical handling marks. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling. The hardwood stock and forend are solid with minor dings and superficial compressions consistent with age and field use, though the checkering remains crisp. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The scope optics are clear and the reticle is intact.
