Description
This lot comprises 142 rounds of 16-gauge shotgun ammunition contained within six boxes from several prominent manufacturers including Federal, Western, Winchester, and Remington. The collection represents a variety of mid-to-late 20th-century hunting loads and shell constructions. Included is one box of Federal Classic Steel Magnum featuring purple ribbed plastic shells with markings that specify STEEL FEDERAL 15/16 OZ 4. Two boxes of Western Super-X are present: one white box for plastic shotgun shells marked for 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2 shot, and one older yellow and blue box originally designated for #5 shot which currently contains a mixture of red paper Western shells and a purple plastic shell marked with a 4. The Winchester offerings include a Super Speed box marked for #4 shot containing red paper hulls with WINCHESTER SUPER SPEED 4 markings, and a box of Winchester-Western Dove & Quail loads with 1 oz #8 shot in red plastic hulls marked WINCHESTER Western DOVE & QUAIL LOAD 1-8. Completing the lot is a box of Remington Express Extra Long Range containing green ribbed plastic shells with hulls marked REMINGTON Express KLEANBORE and EXTRA LONG RANGE. These loads were intended for a variety of upland game and waterfowl hunting applications.
Condition report:
The ammunition appears to be in live condition, though it has not been function-tested. The brass bases show varying degrees of tarnish and minor surface oxidation consistent with age. Plastic hulls remain clean and pliable, while the paper hulls on the older Western and Winchester Super Speed loads show some shelf wear, fading, and minor surface texture changes. The cardboard boxes exhibit typical wear for their age, including edge scuffing, minor crushing, some torn or weakened flaps, and light staining. One Western box shows significant wear to the top opening. Primers appear original and unfired.
