Description
This Remington Model 24 is a semi-automatic takedown rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle. It features a 19-inch round barrel equipped with an adjustable rear notch sight and a blade front sight. The design utilizes the John Browning-patented takedown system, allowing the barrel assembly to easily detach from the receiver for storage or transport. The firearm is fitted with a walnut buttstock and forend; the buttstock houses an internal tubular magazine that is loaded through a port on the right side of the wrist. Key markings include the model designation MODEL 24 and the serial number 125970 on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is marked REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., SUCCESSOR TO THE REMINGTON ARMS U. M. C. CO. INC., REMINGTON ILION WKS., ILION, N. Y. U. S. A. BROWNINGS PATENT OCT. 24, 1916 on the top, while the side is stamped .22 LONG RIFLE ONLY-SMOKELESS-GREASED along with the OB9 barrel date code. The steel buttplate features the REMINGTON UMC trademark logo. Notably, there is a large chip missing from the left side of the wooden forend where it meets the receiver. Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a blued finish that has thinned to a gray-brown patina throughout, with areas of light surface wear, minor scratches, and scattered light pitting. The walnut stock and forend show significant handling marks, dings, and surface scratches; the forend specifically has a large piece of wood missing from the upper rear left side. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly, although the firearm has not been live-fire tested.
