Description
This Japanese Type 38 bolt action infantry rifle is chambered in 6.5x50mmSR Arisaka and features the standard long-pattern configuration utilized by the Imperial Japanese Army. The rifle is equipped with a 31.4 inch barrel fitted with a protected front post sight and a ladder-style rear sight graduated to 2,400 meters. The metal surfaces exhibit a thinning blued finish that has transitioned to a plum patina in several areas. The top of the receiver has been ground to remove the Imperial Chrysanthemum, a common practice following the Japanese surrender in 1945, though the Japanese characters designating the Type 38 model remain partially visible. Key markings include the Koishikawa Arsenal symbol followed by the serial number 13300 on the left side of the receiver. The furniture consists of a characteristic two-piece wood buttstock with a reddish-brown finish, displaying numerous handling marks, compressions, and scratches consistent with historical military service. The rifle retains its cleaning rod, bayonet lug, and sling swivels located on the middle barrel band and the underside of the stock. The action is completed with a knurled safety knob and a steel buttplate. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components show moderate wear with approximately 40 percent of the original blued finish remaining, while the balance shows thinning, silvering, and a developing brown patina. There is light surface oxidation present on the barrel bands and trigger guard. The bore is dark and frosted with visible rifling, showing signs of use with corrosive ammunition. The bolt action appears to function correctly, although the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired. The two-piece wood stock is structurally sound with no major cracks, though it shows significant field wear in the form of multiple dings, scratches, and gouges typical of a combat-used weapon. The cleaning rod and sights are intact and functional.
