Description
This Italian military bolt-action carbine is a Gardone V.T. Carcano Modello 1891 Moschetto per Truppe Speciali (TS), chambered in 6.5x52mm Carcano and designed for specialized units. It features an approximately 17.7-inch barrel with a fixed front blade and an adjustable tangent rear sight. Verbatim markings on the barrel shank include the production date 1936-XIV, the manufacturer GARDONE V.T., and a crown over the letters RE signifying the Italian Royal Army (Regio Esercito). The serial number M5157 is struck into the left side of the barrel shank, and the top of the barrel is marked with a MADE IN ITALY import stamp. The wood furniture consists of a full-length stock and handguard that have been refinished with an orange-toned stain. The right side of the buttstock is stamped with a large M over the serial number R 7877, and a side-mounted sling bar is present. The metal components show a mix of original blued finish, thinning, and a significant brown patina. The firearm is missing its associated bayonet and cleaning rod. Condition report:
The carbine is in fair condition. The metal finish is largely thinned and replaced by a dark brown patina with widespread surface oxidation and rust, most notably on the barrel and the heavily rusted buttplate. The wood stock has been refinished with a non-original orange-colored stain and exhibits numerous impact marks, dings, and scratches consistent with service use. The action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested. The bore was not inspected.
