Description
This Fabrique Nationale Browning Auto-5 is a recoil-operated semi-automatic shotgun chambered for 12 gauge, featuring a 30 inch barrel with a fixed full choke. The barrel is marked Browning Arms Company Ogden Utah and Made in Belgium on the top, with further markings specifying Full 12 Special Steel and 2 3/4 inch chambers. The left side of the receiver is engraved with the manufacturer information Fabrique Nationale d’Armes de Guerre Herstal Belgique above Browning’s Patent Depose. The serial number 119332 over the letter A is stamped on the underside of the receiver just forward of the loading port, while the bolt is marked with a partial serial number 9332 and Belgian proof marks including a lion over P.V. The firearm is fitted with a checkered walnut forend and a round knob pistol grip stock. The wood exhibits significant wear, including a longitudinal crack on the underside of the forend and a wrist that is tightly wrapped in black tape. The stock is capped with a hard rubber buttplate embossed with the FN monogram and Browning Automatic. The metal finish shows heavy thinning and a gray patina throughout. Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a small amount of original blued finish, now largely transitioned to a thinning gray and brown patina with scattered surface oxidation and areas of light pitting, most notably on the receiver and the exterior of the barrel. The bore is dark and shows visible pitting throughout. The action appears to function mechanically, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The wood furniture is in fair to poor condition, showing numerous dings, scratches, and a prominent crack in the forend. The tape wrap at the wrist suggests a structural repair. The buttplate shows smoothing and minor chipping at the edges.
