Description
This Montgomery Ward Western Field Model 30 is a pump-action shotgun chambered in 16 gauge, designed as a reliable field gun for upland hunting. The firearm features a 28 inch barrel with a blued finish, topped with a single silver bead front sight. The blued steel receiver displays prominent markings on the left side, which are roll-marked Western Field / MONTGOMERY WARD & CO. and MODEL 30, alongside an engraved scene of a hunting dog in a field. Barrel markings specify PROOF TESTED — 16 GAUGE near the receiver junction. The shotgun is equipped with a two-piece walnut stock and forend, both featuring checkered panels for an improved grip, and the buttstock is fitted with a black ribbed hard rubber buttplate. The serial number U 50069 is clearly visible on the lower tang. The action is a standard slide-action design with a tubular magazine. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in fair to good overall condition. The blued finish on the receiver shows thinning and wear at the balance points and edges, with scattered light surface oxidation and minor pitting present on both the receiver and the barrel. The walnut furniture exhibits typical handling marks, including scratches and small dings consistent with field use, though the checkering remains mostly well-defined. The bore is bright and appears free of significant pitting. The pump action appears to function correctly and cycles smoothly, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition.
