Description
This is a break-action, hammerless side-by-side shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, featuring 31-inch barrels intended for sporting use. The firearm is configured with dual triggers, a tang-mounted safety, and a single brass bead front sight. The metal surfaces consist of blued steel barrels and a receiver with a mottled, faded case-hardened finish showing signs of patina and surface wear. The furniture includes a checkered wood stock and forend, with the buttstock fitted with a red rubber J.C. Higgins recoil pad that appears perished and cracked. Key markings include the script Ranger engraving on both sides of the receiver and the patent date PAT. APR. 20 – 1915 stamped on the left side of the action. The top of the left barrel is marked PROOF TESTED 12 GA. The serial number X31791 is located on the water table of the receiver and the underside of the barrel lug. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The barrels retain a fair amount of original bluing, showing thinning and scattered surface wear throughout. The receiver finish has largely silvered and faded to a mottled patina with remnants of case hardening and light surface oxidation. The checkered wood stock and forend show moderate wear, including various dings, scratches, and compressed checkering consistent with age and field use. The J.C. Higgins recoil pad is in poor condition, exhibiting significant cracking and hardening. The bores were not inspected, but the action appears to function correctly; however, we have not function-tested this firearm.
