Description
This is a heavy-duty adjustable benchrest shooting stand manufactured by Herter’s of Waseca, Minnesota, designed as a vintage style shooting bench rest made of solid heavy cast iron. The unit features a sturdy tripod-style base with three adjustable leveling bolts equipped with hexagonal heads and knurled locking rings for stability on uneven surfaces. A central height-adjustment mechanism utilizes a large threaded post actuated by a horizontal crossbar for manual rotation, secured firmly by a knurled lock nut. The top assembly consists of a wide U-shaped metal cradle supporting a white foam block and a two-lobed front sandbag crafted from brown suede leather. The bag is secured to the cradle by integrated leather straps and cord laces. Key markings include the location WASECAMINN cast in raised letters around the upper hub of the base and a small paper inventory label numbered 2366 1 affixed to the suede bag.
Condition report:
The cast iron base retains most of its original textured grey finish with scattered scuffs and minor finish wear consistent with age and field use. The mechanical height adjustment and leveling bolts function smoothly and as intended. The foam block shows compression from use but remains structurally sound. The brown suede leather front bag exhibits significant wear, including surface abrasions and a notable split with tearing along the central seam. Residual white powder from use is visible on the suede surfaces. The leather straps and cord laces remain intact and functional.
