Description
This Harrington & Richardson Topper Model 158 is a classic single-shot break-action shotgun chambered for 12 gauge 2 3/4 inch shells. It features a 28-inch blued steel barrel with a fixed modified choke and a brass bead front sight. The receiver is finished in an attractive and vibrant color case-hardening with mottled blues, straws, and purples. The firearm is fitted with a smooth hardwood buttstock and a matching slim forend, both showing a clear grain. The stock is capped with a brown plastic buttplate embossed with Upland Game and an engraving of a bird in flight over a coniferous landscape. Prominent markings on the left side of the receiver include TOPPER MODEL 158, HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC., WORC. MASS. U.S.A., and the serial number AF214269. The barrel is marked 12 GA. 2 3/4 MOD. along with a proof mark consisting of a P in a circle. The break-action mechanism is operated by a top-mounted lever and features an exposed hammer. We have not function-tested this firearm, though the action appears to operate correctly. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in very good overall condition. The blued finish on the barrel remains largely intact with only minor surface handling marks and very light wear. The receiver retains nearly all of its vibrant color case-hardened finish. The hardwood furniture is in good condition, showing a few scattered dings and light scratches consistent with careful use, but no cracks or significant damage. The bore is bright and clean. The action opens smoothly and locks up tight.
