Description

An antique Japanese bolt-action military rifle, featuring a dark-stained wooden full stock and heavily patinated steel components. Visible markings include the Imperial Japanese chrysanthemum crest on the receiver, along with the serial number “126798”, and the Japanese inscription “大日本帝国村田銃” (Imperial Japan Murata Rifle). On the opposite side of the receiver, near the bolt handle, additional Japanese characters read “三八式” (Type 38) followed by another character. Further details include a folding leaf rear sight numbered “3” and “4”, a foresight, and a cleaning rod channel beneath the barrel. An attached modern label on the buttstock identifies the item as “FIRST MODERN JAPANESE ARMY RIFLE / TYPE 13 MURATA 1870”.

Condition report:

Fair condition, consistent with significant age and military use. The wooden stock exhibits numerous scratches, dents, and general wear, with a visible crack present above the trigger guard. Metal components show extensive finish loss, heavy patination, and scattered areas of surface rust and pitting, most notably on the buttplate. Functionality not tested.
