Lot 114:
Sold for: $1,300
Description
An antique Savage 1861 Navy Model Percussion Revolver, .36 caliber. This firearm, identified by legible markings on the top strap, was manufactured by Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Co. of Middletown, CT. The markings include patent dates “H. S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856”, “JANUARY 18 1859”, and “MAY 15 1860”, indicating a mid-19th century manufacture consistent with the Civil War era. The revolver features an octagonal barrel, a multi-chambered cylinder, and a distinctive double-ring trigger guard, often referred to as a ‘Figure 8’ design. Constructed primarily of metal, it is fitted with dark wood grip panels.
Condition report:
Exhibits significant bluing loss, revealing a dark, aged patina throughout the metal components. Surface oxidation, scratches, and dings are present, consistent with substantial age and historical use. The dark wood grip panels show wear and minor abrasions. The firearm appears structurally complete; mechanical functionality has not been tested.
