Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1209:
Sold for: $1,200
Description
An antique Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, consistent with American mid-19th century Civil War era designs. This visibly aged revolver features an open-top frame and an integrated loading lever. It is constructed primarily of steel for the barrel, frame, and cylinder, with brass used for the trigger guard and grip backstrap. The grip panels are made of dark-stained wood. Visible markings include “COLT’S” on the left frame and “44 CAL.” on the right trigger guard. The serial number “79847” is present on the barrel lug, cylinder, and brass grip frame, accompanied by an “S”. A differing serial number, “79347”, is present on the rear frame strap and the bottom buttstrap.
Condition report:
The item exhibits considerable wear. Steel components display a heavy dark patina, scattered pitting, and extensive loss of original finish. The brass elements are tarnished. The wooden grips are heavily worn, scratched, and show material loss, particularly at the butt, suggesting substantial use and age. The presence of two differing serial numbers (\"79847\" and \"79347\") indicates a potential parts mismatch.
