Description
A military bayonet, identified as an M1912 Chilean Mauser model, manufactured by Oesterreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft (OEWG) Steyr, presented with its accompanying metal scabbard. The bayonet features a steel blade with a single fuller. The hilt comprises a steel crossguard stamped “A. 5175”, dark wooden grip scales secured by two rivets, and a steel pommel designed for rifle attachment. A faint crest-like emblem is visible on one side of the ricasso, with the distinct manufacturer’s mark “OE WG” on the opposing ricasso face. The blued or blackened steel scabbard features a frog stud marked “B.1488”.
Condition report:
The bayonet and scabbard exhibit typical wear consistent with age and use. This includes surface scratches and finish loss on the scabbard, and some patina on the metal components of both items. Both appear structurally sound.
