Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1236:
Sold for: $425
Description
An Imperial Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle, dating from the World War II era. The rifle is constructed with a reddish-brown finished wooden stock and dark blued or parkerized steel components. The receiver prominently features an Imperial Japanese chrysanthemum crest and the Japanese characters 「九九式」 (Kyuukyuu-shiki), translating to “Type 99”. It bears the serial number “920342” followed by an additional small series character. The rifle is chambered in 7.7mm and is equipped with an adjustable rear sight featuring a numbered scale and a fixed front sight.
Condition report:
Fair to good, used condition. The wooden stock exhibits numerous scratches, dings, and pressure marks consistent with period service and field use. There is noticeable finish loss and wear on the blued or parkerized metal components, particularly on the receiver, barrel, and buttplate, showing areas of oxidation. The Imperial chrysanthemum crest appears intact. Mechanical action appears to function, but further inspection by a qualified expert is recommended prior to firing.
