Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1238:
Sold for: $75
Description
A pair of vintage military stereo binoculars, manufactured by Talbot Reel Manufacturing Company of Kansas City, Missouri, U.S., identified as 6×30 magnification and objective lens diameter, consistent with those issued to the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the WWII era. The binoculars feature a robust design with a black-painted metal body, largely covered in a textured, reddish-brown leatherette or leather material. Markings include “MILITARY 6X 30” and partially “STEREO” on one side, and “TALBOT REEL & MFG. CO. K.C. MO. U.S.” on the opposite side. Adjustable eyecups are present with diopter settings, and the central hinge includes a numerical scale for interpupillary distance adjustment. A worn brown leather neck strap is attached.
Condition report:
Significant cosmetic wear consistent with age and field use. The black painted metal body exhibits extensive paint loss, revealing the underlying brassy or gold-toned metal. The reddish-brown leatherette covering shows scuffs, abrasions, and some areas of loss. The attached brown leather neck strap is worn and supple. Optical clarity and mechanical function (focus, diopter, interpupillary distance adjustment) are untested and not guaranteed.
