The reverse is inscribed “THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION” around the top perimeter, with two vertical lists of nations below: “FRANCE ITALY SERBIA JAPAN MONTENEGRO RUSSIA GREECE” on the left and “GREAT BRITAIN BELGIUM BRAZIL PORTUGAL RUMANIA CHINA” on the right. These lists flank a central shield emblem with “US” at its top and a fasces design, all above five small stars. Two bronze-toned rectangular bars are attached to the ribbon, embossed with the texts “MEUSE-ARGONNE” and “DEFENSIVE SECTOR,” each flanked by a star.
