Description
A Swedish Model 1896 Mauser Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. The bayonet features a polished steel, double-edged spear-point blade with a fuller. The grip is dark and checkered, leading to a metal crossguard with a muzzle ring. The pommel incorporates a press-stud release mechanism. Markings on the blade’s ricasso include the numbers “278” beneath a crowned emblem consistent with the Swedish ‘Tre Kronor’. Further stamped “E.J. AB” with a similar crown device is visible at the crossguard. The associated scabbard is dark metal, with its throat marked “E.J. AB” and “928”. It is fitted with a two-tone brown and black leather frog, secured by rivets and a buckle-fastening strap. An adhesive label on the scabbard identifies the item as “SWEDISH”.
Condition report:
Apparent used condition. The blade and scabbard show surface scratches and wear, with some surface oxidation on metal parts. The pommel is bent. The leather frog exhibits significant patination, discoloration, and softening consistent with age and use.
