Description

A British Lee-Enfield Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mark III bolt-action military rifle, dated 1909. The rifle is constructed with a dark-stained wood stock and fore-end, complemented by blued steel metal components. It features a brass buttplate with a functional trapdoor. Visible markings on the left side of the receiver include a Crown cipher over “G.R.” (Georgius Rex), “ENFIELD”, the year “1909”, and “S.H.T. L.E. III”. Additional markings observed include serial numbers “N 9381”, “343”, and “5613”, along with “NZ” (indicating likely New Zealand issue) and “SH T22”, as well as various proof marks. The rifle is fitted with an olive drab webbing sling with brass-colored hardware.

Condition report:

Good overall condition. The blued steel components show surface wear, consistent with age and use, including thinning of the finish and minor abrasions. The dark-stained wood stock and fore-end exhibit typical handling marks, minor dents, and scratches, but no significant cracks or losses observed. The brass buttplate has developed a natural patina. The webbing sling shows some discoloration and wear. Mechanically appears sound, but functionality has not been tested.
