Description
A U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1880 Hunting Knife and Scabbard. The knife features a heavy, wide steel blade with a spear-point tip, a substantial brass hilt with an integral S-shaped guard, and a ribbed, light-brown wooden grip. The brass hilt is marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” and bears the number “G0324.” The accompanying scabbard is crafted from a copper or bronze-toned metal, possibly copper, and is adorned with four prominent raised spiral designs on the body, complemented by a textured band near the throat and a brass suspension loop.
Condition report:
Poor to fair condition, consistent with age and extensive use. The steel blade exhibits heavy pitting, deep scratches, and oxidation. The brass components of the hilt are deeply patinated. The wooden grip shows numerous nicks and a darkened patina. The metal scabbard displays heavy patination, several dents, and surface corrosion throughout.
