Lot 1328:
WWII Japanese Silk Yosegaki Hinomaru Good Luck Flag
Sold for: $130
Description
A WWII Japanese Silk Yosegaki Hinomaru Good Luck Flag. This white fabric flag or banner features a large, centrally located red-orange disc against a white field, consistent with a Japanese Hinomaru flag. It is extensively inscribed with numerous handwritten Japanese characters in black ink surrounding the central disc. A prominent vertical inscription on the right side reads “武運長久” (Buun Chōkyū), which translates to “Eternal good fortune in battle” or “May your military fortunes be long-lasting.” A faint, circular red ink stamp is visible in the lower right corner. Small ties are present on one side, suggesting it was intended to be attached.
Condition report:
The flag shows signs of age and use, including overall yellowing and discoloration of the white fabric, visible fold lines, some darker staining or spotting on both the fabric and the red-orange disc, and minor fraying along the edges.
