Description
An Imperial Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, 8th Class Medal, consistent with WWII era production. This award comprises a silver-toned metal pendant suspended from a red and cream/off-white striped textile ribbon. The medal’s obverse depicts a stylized Paulownia flower (Kiri-mon) crest featuring three leaves at the base and five flower clusters above. The reverse is inscribed with Japanese characters “勲功章” (Kun kō shō), which translates to “Merit Medal” or “Medal for Distinguished Service.” The ribbon is folded into a triangular shape and secures with a metal bar and hook attachment on the reverse.
Condition report:
The item exhibits an aged appearance, with visible surface wear, scratches, and dark patination on the metal. The textile ribbon shows discoloration and minor soiling, all consistent with historical use.
