A Socket Bayonet and Scabbard
Sold for: $65
Description
A military bayonet and its accompanying scabbard. The bayonet features a double-edged, spear-point blade with a dark blued or blackened finish. The hilt is an integral, cylindrical, ribbed socket-style attachment, also dark-finished, with three elongated rectangular slots on each side and a visible spring-loaded locking mechanism at the pommel end. The scabbard is composed of a black, smooth-finished body, likely metal, mated with a faded olive drab canvas or web belt hanger that includes brass-tone metal snaps and a U-shaped loop.
Condition report:
The bayonet blade exhibits notable wear, scratches, and minor surface oxidation. The hilt shows finish loss, scuffs, and scratches. The scabbard\'s metal body has minor corrosion, scuffs, and scratches, while the textile belt hanger shows fading and soiling. The overall piece appears structurally intact, consistent with age and field use.
