The hilt comprises a steel crossguard with an integral muzzle ring and a downturned quillon, a dark wood grip with horizontal grooving secured by two rivets, and a steel pommel with a lug attachment slot and a spring-loaded release button. Visible markings include the numbers ‘1861’ stamped on the blade’s spine near the hilt, a stylized symbol resembling an ‘S’ or stacked characters on the blade flat below the crossguard, and a faint circular marking, possibly ’50’, on the pommel.
Condition report:
The bayonet exhibits clear signs of age and use, including surface scratches, minor pitting, and wear consistent with its utilitarian design. The wood grip shows wear and some darkening. The metal components have developed a patination.
