Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1443:
Sold for: $1,150
Description
A Confederate Richmond Armory Model 1861 Percussion Rifle-Musket, crafted from antique materials. This percussion lock military-style rifle features a darkened wooden stock and heavily patinated metal components. The lock plate is impressed with “U.S.” above “RICHMOND, VA” and a partial date, likely “186_”. The buttplate tang bears a “U.S.” marking, and a carving of “CS” is present on the left side of the buttstock. The rifle’s features and markings suggest manufacture or service related to the Confederate States during the American Civil War era.
Condition report:
Overall condition indicates significant age and use. Substantial pitting and surface corrosion are present on the barrel and other metal parts. The wood stock shows numerous dings, scratches, and notable cracking, particularly around the lock mechanism. Fair to poor condition consistent with extensive field use and age.
