Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1447:
Sold for: $110
Description
A WWII Japanese Type 30 Arisaka Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. The bayonet features a blued or darkened steel blade with a single fuller, a hooked steel quillon, and two wooden grip scales secured by rivets. A faint, stylized Japanese arsenal mark, resembling interlocking circles, is visible on the ricasso of the blade. It is accompanied by its steel scabbard and an associated leather frog or hanger.
Condition report:
The bayonet\'s metal components and the steel scabbard exhibit heavy wear, pitting, and a dark, oxidized patination. The wooden grip scales show significant handling wear but appear intact. The associated leather frog or hanger attached to the scabbard is severely deteriorated, dry, cracked, and discolored to a faded brown with orange-brown highlights, consistent with prolonged exposure and age. Overall, the set is in a well-used, antique condition consistent with its historical military purpose.
