Description
A pair of WWI era French field binoculars, featuring a classic design with a central focusing mechanism. The body is constructed from black lacquered metal, likely brass, with extensive lacquer loss revealing the golden-toned metal underneath. The main barrels are wrapped in a textured, dark reddish-brown material, consistent with aged leather, which shows scuffs and discoloration. Brass accent rings are visible around the lenses and barrels. The initials ‘M.G.’ are etched on the bridge near the right eyepiece.
Condition report:
Fair to poor vintage condition. Significant lacquer loss and wear to the black metal finish, exposing the underlying brass. The leather wrap shows extensive scuffs, discoloration, and some areas of material degradation consistent with age and use. The optics appear aged, and functionality has not been tested.
