Description
A pair of WWI German Carl Zeiss Jena Fernglas 08 binoculars, featuring an olive green, textured (crinkle) painted metal body. The binoculars are equipped with individual eyepiece focusing, marked with diopter scales ranging from -5 to +5. The central focus wheel bears engraved markings including “D.R.P.” (Deutsches Reichs-Patent), “Carl Zeiss Jena”, “Germany”, and “Gew. 90”. The binoculars are accompanied by a rigid, oval carrying case constructed from a coarse, dark brown woven material over a frame, with metal rims and studs, and brown leather straps and trim for closure and carrying.
Condition report:
The binoculars exhibit extensive paint loss, chipping, and surface grime, with visible wear to the metal. The lenses show some dust and debris. The accompanying carrying case shows significant wear, fraying to the fabric, and deterioration of the leather, consistent with prolonged use and age. The metal rims and studs on the case are heavily rusted.
