Lot 150:
Sold for: $650
Description
A British Enfield No. 5 Mk1 “Jungle Carbine” bolt-action military rifle, manufactured by Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley (ROF (F)) in May 1945, chambered in .303 British caliber. The rifle features a full-length dark-stained wooden stock and blued steel components, with a distinctive detachable box magazine, a hooded front sight, and a robust rear aperture sight assembly. Visible markings on the receiver clearly state “NO. 5 MK. I ROF (F) 5/45 S 2503”, indicating its model, manufacturer, production date, and serial number. Further barrel markings include “BNP” (Birmingham Proof House), “.303” (caliber), “2.222”” (chamber length/proof measurement), and “18.5 TONS PER” (pressure rating), accompanied by a crown proof mark. The front sight base shows the marking “N-470”. A worn, tan canvas sling is attached.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good, used condition consistent with its age and likely military service. The wooden stock exhibits various handling marks, scratches, and minor dents. The metal components show some finish wear, particularly on high points and moving parts. No major structural damage or significant corrosion is evident. The action appears to function correctly.
