Description
A U.S. Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor Rifle. This vintage U.S. military breech-loading rifle is primarily constructed from a darkened wooden stock and aged blued or patinated steel components. Key markings include “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” beneath an eagle emblem on the lock plate, and “U.S. MODEL 1878” stamped on the receiver. A partial serial number “42XXXX” is present, along with a “P” in a circle, and “US” near the buttplate.
Condition report:
The rifle presents in visibly used condition, showing expected wear, surface patination, and minor dings and scratches to both the wood and metal elements, consistent with its age and operational history.
