Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1513:
Sold for: $250
Description
An original Vietnam War North Vietnamese Army (NVA) pith helmet. This olive drab military-style helmet, likely mid-20th century, is constructed from a fabric-covered shell with a reinforced brim. It features a dark brown leather chinstrap with metal buckles and six metal ventilation grommets around the dome. A prominent circular metal insignia is affixed to the front, displaying a gold star on a red field with radiating lines, bordered in gold. The interior reveals a fabric suspension system and a hexagonal paper label. This label bears the text “NSX M 26 F” and “VIỆT NAM DÂN CHỦ CỘNG HÒA” (Democratic Republic of Vietnam), along with “CHỮ ĐẶT” (order/custom-made), “BẢO ĐẢM CHẤT LƯỢNG” (guaranteed quality), and “THÁNG” (month), bordered by gold wheat-like wreaths.
Condition report:
The helmet exhibits significant wear, including dirt, scuffs, and discoloration to the fabric exterior. The metal components show tarnishing, and there is wear to the leather chinstrap and interior label. All wear is consistent with active use and age.
