Lot 154:
A German World War II M40 Single Decal Army (Heer) Combat Helmet
Sold for: $650
Description
A German World War II M40 Single Decal Army (Heer) Combat Helmet, constructed from steel with a heavily patinated, dark brown/grey finish. The left side features a partially deteriorated decal depicting a stylized eagle clutching a swastika within a wreath, consistent with a Wehrmacht (Heer) emblem. The interior reveals a heavily worn, discolored, and cracked multi-fingered leather liner with some remaining lacing, accompanied by a distressed leather chinstrap with a metal buckle. Visible markings include ‘Eder’ and ‘Etter’ handwritten on the liner, likely previous owners’ names, and a stamped ‘ET64’ on the inner shell, indicating manufacturer Eisenhüttenwerke Thale and a shell size of 64cm.
Condition report:
The helmet presents in overall worn and aged condition. The steel shell exhibits heavy patination, surface corrosion, and significant wear. The decal is partially deteriorated. The leather liner is heavily worn, discolored, and cracked, with some lacing remaining. The leather chinstrap is distressed.
